Hello, My Dear Friends,
When it comes to Christianity, I believe there are many people who have intellectual obstacles that stand in the way. However, I have noticed over the years that adults become Christians not because they resolve their issues and have all their questions answered; they become a Christian when they experience something that makes it personal.
To explain this, let me use a baseball illustration. Robert Adaire, a Yale physicist, says that a 90-mph fastball travels 60 1/2 feet in 400 milliseconds. That’s a little less than half a second, from the hand of the pitcher to home plate. During that time, the batter has to find the ball in the air, get the image in his mind, and decide whether or not to swing. If the batter decides to swing, the mind spends 100 milliseconds trying to decide where to swing — high, low, or middle of the strike zone. Dr. Adaire concludes that hitting a 90-mph fastball is impossible. He says no one can hit a 90-mph fastball!
Yet we’ve seen it happen! Where is he wrong? We’re smart enough to know that the undeniable supersedes the unexplainable. Hitting a 90-mph fastball is unexplainable. But it is not undeniable.
In every area of life, we do this: When I speak into a microphone. When I start my car (with 10,000 moving parts). When I unlock my car with the remote control. When I fly in an airplane. You studied the wing of an airplane in physics class in high school. But you don’t really understand how the plane gets in the air. But how many people say, “I’m not getting on that plane until I understand it!” Why? Because it’s undeniable. It works! It happens all the time!
There is an avenue to God that takes you around your obstacles, not through them. There is a way to become Christian without getting all of your questions answered. Something happens, and the reality of Christianity becomes so undeniable, that people are willing to carry with them into that relationship some things they would admit are absolutely unexplainable. Yet they have experienced it — and that’s undeniable!
