A Prayer of Thanksgiving

Gracious God, you have given us everything. You have given us minds for thinking, hearts for feeling, a soul for connecting with you. We are so thankful for the blessing of material things, for family and friends. We are thankful for the gift of life which, in your grace, you have given us so that we might be in an intimate relationship with you. May we not sacrifice our souls to what is plentiful on this earth, but instead may we dedicate our souls to answering your call for our ministry together.

We don’t understand, God, why some of us have so much and others on this earth have so little. Because we are sure that your intention is that we each have what we need. Teach us not to want what others cannot have. And teach us to learn to be grateful for what we have.

Deepen the everyday grace at our tables this Thanksgiving Day, O God. Let us know our daily food as manna, as miracle, as abundance. Let us know that our daily rest is life-giving. Let us remember each member of our family as a beautiful facet of your creation, even those from whom we are estranged.

Hear our thanks for our church, our leadership team, our musicians, our Imagine Kids leaders and Imagine Nation Youth workers, our staff, our friends at GCTS who allow us to worship in such a beautiful place each week, and for the glorious future you have set for us. And finally, O God, hear our prayer for those who don’t have enough. Let us play our part in the return of their abundance. We offer this prayer of thanksgiving in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

In the name of the One who can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,
