I read a story once about a guy who walks up on a construction site and found three fellows working there. The man says, “Hey, what are you guys doing?” One of them said, “I’m breaking up stones.” The second guy said, “I’m making a living.” The third guy said, “I’m building a cathedral.” That’s the one who had vision! Suddenly the mundane things of life have meaning; suddenly they matter. That’s what vision does for your life.
When you have vision, it’s easy to make decisions. Because if you have a clear vision for your life, anything that pushes you toward the vision is a yes; anything that pushes you away from the vision is a no. Suddenly, in decision making, you become far more decisive in life, if you have a vision.
I’ll tell you what vision has done for me, more than anything else: it gave me confidence. Because I came to realize that if I didn’t do what I had set out to do, I would be missed. If I didn’t accomplish what I felt like God had set out for me to accomplish, something wouldn’t get done. I began to feel a brand new sense of inner purpose in my soul about my life. I had far more confidence, because I could see that I mattered. I mattered in this life, and in this world. When you have a clear sense of vision in your life, you’ll have sense of confidence you’ve never experienced before.
We talk a lot about vision at Imagine Church, and with good reason. We talk about vision — especially as it relates to God’s vision for your life — to eliminate the possibility of you coming to the end of your life, looking back and saying, “What in the world was all of that really about?”
Aristotle said, “The soul never thinks without a picture.” Do you have a picture? In the spiritual realm, do you have a picture of what God may want to do in-and-through your life? As you wrestle with that question, I believe God will birth in you a vision for your life. And it will change your life. And it will just be incredible.
