Use Us, God

Once in the Old Testament Moses was complaining to God that the people of Israel didn’t have any meat while they were out in the wilderness.  And God said, “Moses, I will give you meat for thirty straight days.”  Moses was absolutely astounded.  He said, “God, do you realize there are two million people out there?  How in the world, God, is this supposed to happen?”

God answered Moses with what has always been for me an overwhelming passage of Scripture.  God said, “Moses, when did I become weak?  Have you forgotten that I was the one who created the worlds?  Have you forgotten that I was the one who opened the Red Sea to let all you walk through on dry ground?  Why are you doubting me, Moses?  When did I become weak?”

I wonder if God is saying the same thing today to the people of Imagine Church.  In our time of need, I wonder if God is saying, “Have I somehow lost my power, and my ability to take care of you and meet your needs?”  God says, “Look at the birds of the air. I take care of them every single day.  I feed them; I clothe them; they never lack.  Yet they don’t even know where their next meal will come from.  And still I provide for them every single time.  Can I not do that much for you?”

As we enter this new year, I challenge you to enlarge your vision.  Dream bigger dreams.  Reach for new heights.  Broaden your horizons.  Be willing to think outside the box.  There is nothing too difficult for God.  If we believe, all things are possible.  We just have to be willing to get beyond the limited thinking of the way things have always been.

When Paul wrote to the Ephesians, he said that God is constantly looking for people who will live for the praise of God’s glory.  And I say:  God, search no more.  Here we are.  The people of Imagine Church.  Pour out your Spirit on us.  We believe you; we trust you.  We love you.  We are willing, and we are open.  Use us, God, to change this world to the praise of your glory, and your glory alone.

In the name of the One who can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,
